Gina Cavan is Lecturer in GIS and Climate in the Division of Geography & Environmental Management, School of Science and the Environment at Manchester Metropolitan University. Gina’s research activities and interests focus on the application of Geographical Information Science in the following areas:

 

  • Characterising urban environments and assessing urban ecosystem services
  • Urban & applied climatology
  • Climate change risk, vulnerability and adaptation assessment in urban environments
  • Impacts of humans in sensitive environments - in particular - wildfire risk mapping & economic costing; footpath erosion modelling/management
  • Web-based GIS tools for climate change adaptation planning (e.g. www.ppgis.manchester.ac.uk/grabs and www.ppgis.manchester.ac.uk/ecocities)

Gina was previously at the University of Manchester, where she currently holds an Honorary Research Fellowship and undertakes research with colleagues at UoM relating to two funded projects: Climate Change and Urban Vulnerability in Africa (CLUVA, www.cluva.eu) and EcoCities (www.adaptingmanchester.co.uk)
