NERC Grant

Dr Mike Wood (University of Salford) has been awarded a NERC grant that will fund his radioecology research over the next 5 years.

Mike will be using ionomics and phylogenetics, coupled with state-of-the-art animal ecology and modelling techniques, to develop new methods for predicting radionuclide transfer through food chains and for modelling radiation exposure of wildlife.

The £270k research programme will involve extensive field-based research in the forests of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, where Mike will be working closely with researchers from the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, Universities of Comté (France), Stirling and West of England and the International Radioecology Laboratory (Ukraine).
