Adapting cities to climate change - new research article published in Progress in Planning

Climate change, increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, coupled with increasing population density in cities ensures that adaptation to climate change remains a pressing issue for urban areas over the coming decades. This article reports on the outcomes of a collaborative research project, EcoCities, which sought to investigate climate change hazards, vulnerabilities and adaptation responses in Greater Manchester, UK. The article draws out emerging transferable learning with relevance for adaptation planning in other cities globally. Working within a collaborative, socio-technical agenda is vital to meet the adaptation challenge in cities.
